August is over in half, so we have to look ahead. PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers had a decent month with solid offers. While our predictions were wrong, we’ll give it a try. The real selections must be announced on August 31st because PlayStation usually reveals PS Plus games on the last Thursday of the month.
No more heroes 3
Travis Touchdown returns for his third adventure, 11 years after No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. October will be the first anniversary of the console’s non-Switch release and a good time to introduce more gamers to the series. This game takes place again in Santa Destroy, which is under siege by an alien invasion. The aliens take control and seek to put together a ranking of the strongest fighters on Earth, which causes Travis to score.
While No More Heroes 2 didn’t hit any other consoles besides the Wii, what better time to expose a new audience to the series? This high-action hack-and-slash game is perfect for the PlayStation Plus service and will raise the hype for Grasshopper Manufacture games, especially with a new release of Lollipop Chainsaw.
Aries cult
Don’t let the cute cartoon graphics mislead you; Aries worship is a great time. After the deity saves the life of the sheep’s main character, they are tasked with starting a cult in their honor. This does a lot of good for procedural generation as players must move out of their cult camp into other game areas to increase their numbers and influence. Cult of the Lamb mixes management simulation and roguelike to great results.
Like our prediction above, it’s been over a year since the cult Aries was released. August’s PlayStation Plus offerings included Devolver Digital with Death’s Door, so there’s a history of their published games hitting the service. As we enter the spooky season, this is a decent pick.
Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil Inside Me
The descent into spooky season doesn’t have to be gradual. Instead, it should be everything at once, like the day you walk into Walmart and it’s black and orange everywhere. That’s why we also love the latest Dark Pictures Anthology. The Devil in Me takes players into a history lesson about America’s first serial killer: H.H. Holmes. This notorious killer had a building used for his crimes, which he called the “Murder Castle”. A camera crew is invited to tour the infamous building, but they may be getting more than expected.
Since Man of Medan was also available through PlayStation Plus, there’s every reason to believe that Devil in Me will also be a prime candidate for a free-to-play title. Since this game serves as the season finale for the anthology and two games have yet to be announced, this title has also advanced to attract fans.
