Stock Futures Flat with Consumer Confidence Data on Deck: Stock Market News Today

Stocks were little changed before the bell rang on Tuesday, as investors braced for a flood of fresh readings on the health of the US economy as a dismal August draws to a close.

Futures for the S&P 500 Index (^GSPC), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) and the Nasdaq Composite Index (^IXIC) were all broadly flat. The three major US metrics posted a win on Monday – a rarity in what appears to be a losing month.

Wall Street will get updates on US Consumer Confidence, Job Opportunities, and the Case-Shiller House Price Index on Tuesday, which serves as a prelude to the headline PCE inflation and August payroll reports due Thursday and Friday.
